Very informative book and provided a lot of insight. I've been to the Netherlands on several occasions and wanted to know more about the people. It's a serious book and can be slow going at times. English is clearly a second language for the author, so perhaps once a chapter, I didn't understand what was said and on other occasions, I had to review a particular phrase a few times to understand what the author meant. It would be useful for business for also for tourists. Overall, I'm glad I bought it.(Customer Review)

Opinionated, but never irreverent, Get Lost! remains the only guide to cover Amsterdams underground culture accurately and extensively. Get Lost! leads travellers to the cheapest, funkiest and most delicious spots in town: inexpensive organic restaurants, the coolest bars and clubs, an incredible array of alternative museums, mind-expanding cafes, one-of-a-kind shops, and of course the kinkiest corners of the Red Light District. Readers trust The Cool Guide for practical information that every visitor needs - accommodation, transport, weather, etc. But they also turn to it for the lowdown on more obscure topics such as fair trade cannabis, local pirate radio, and the squat scene. In "Sean & David's Long Drive" he careered around Australia with his laconic pal David in a retro Ford Falcon. In "Drive Thru America" he and David cruised the States in a very uncool Chrysler Neon.
Now Australian humorist Sean Condon is married and living in Amsterdam - jobless, homeless, careless and Dave-less. In "My 'Dam Life" he casts a witty, watchful and wonderfully self-deprecating eye over his expat experience of laziness and leisure, dreams and destiny in the Venice of the North.
With his uncanny ability to seek out the absurd in everyday life, Sean finds plenty of targets in a city of hemp and high culture, canals and bicycles, idiosyncratic plumbing and internationally unrenowned cuisine. "My 'Dam Life" strikes a hilarious chord with anyone who has followed their dream of starting a new life abroad.

This book is a little gem. After years of looking for a simple source of recipes for yer basic Dutch (including Dutch-Indonesian) recipes - speculaas, hasjee and so on - finding it was a real 'Eureka' moment. Even Ditte Kummer's no-nonsense illustrations made plain it was the real thing (very Dutch!). It was only as I first tried to follow its speculaas recipe - with ingredients all over the worktop - that I discovered some sloppy copy-editing or printing had obviously omitted ingredients from some of the recipes. A bit of lateral thinking helped rescue the situation, but it's a plain shame that such a little beauty of a book should be damaged in this way. Still *very* well worth a look, and the only thing of its type I know in English, but...we-e-e-l...someobody somewhere fell asleep at the wheel, and I don't think it was the author! (Customer Review)

Let's go Dutch is a collection of Dutch staples, elegantly and clearly written. Johanna Bates has the amiable tone of an unpretentious friend showing you her favorite dishes from childhood, and what else could you ask for? Good Dutch food is not pretentious- it is for the table of a "gezellig" gathering of friends, not a high end restaurant.
For the purist, some recipe ideas may be questionable; specifically Bates inclusion of Worcestershire sauce in "Hache", but overall, the recipes are authentic, easy to make, and have only a touch of the North American expat flavor to them. (Customer Review)
