Oosterpark is an English style garden laid out in the 1880’s. The area of the park houses the Tropenmuseum, a leading ethnographic museum exhibiting permanent and temporary objects, photos, music and films from non-western cultures.
The park has a big pond and a big grassy field for all kind of activities, such as sunbathing, playing soccer, reading and relaxing. There are several sculptures scattered around the park, perhaps the most known is the National Monument of the History of Slavery. Oosterpark houses the free part of the famous Roots Festival, which is held every year in June in Amsterdam. Tram line 3, 7 or 9.
