The best way to discover Amsterdam is on foot or by bike. Nonetheless exploring the ‘Venice of the North’ by boat is a one of a kind rewarding experience. Going around this wonderful city can be exciting, shocking, fun, entertaining, educational but never boring!
Touring the City of Contradictions with its 160 canals, 1281 bridges and 70 islands can turn out to be quite an enduring task. So plan you tour carefully not to get lost in this maze of canals and miss some of the city’s ‘must-see’! A good map as well as a Travel Guide about Amsterdam is most recommended.
A Highlight Tour of the city won’t be complete without visiting the following – Anne Frank House, Rembrandt House, Rijks Museum, Stedelijk Museum, the Royal Mansion, Van Gogh Museum and the many Amsterdam Hofjes (or courtyards).
While strolling up and down the streets of Amsterdam make sure to visit some of the popular squares, the hub of activity and liveliness where several renowned markets are held on weekly basis. Most of them are surrounded with museums, monuments, cafes and shops. Spare some time to stop and watch the artists performing in the middle of the squares and entertaining the crowd.
The main shopping areas in Amsterdam are the Kalverstraat, Leidsestraat and Nieuwendijk. Perhaps doing some brisk shopping in some of the extravagant shops in the area will add some more fun to the tour.
Finally but not the least, not to miss are the so much controversial Red Light district as well as the infamous coffeeshops.
Amsterdam bicycle tour is relatively cheap and a healthy way to explore the historical city of Amsterdam. On the other hand, a canal boat tour for the more laid-back can be as satisfying, touring and sightseeing the city without a twitch! |
