Museum Van Loon is housed in an interesting patrician house in the center of Amsterdam. The building dates back to 1672 but around the middle of the 18th century went through some renovations and was beautifully decorated with a rich paneling, stucco work, mirrors and fireplaces. In 1884, the house at Keizersgracht 672 has been bought by Van Loon family. The building was opened to the public as a museum in 1974 and exhibits a collection of family portraits dating from the 17th and 18th century, many Old Dutch paintings and interesting antiques such as furniture, porcelain and gold medals.
