The Netherlands is very famous for the great contribution regarding drainage systems technology. Since the Middle Ages, the Dutch had to fight a constant battle to keep certain areas of the Netherlands dry a habitable. Kinderdijk-Elshout is a monument of a well organized drainage system. Kinderdijk-Elshout is covered with a series of well preserved windmills which pump all the excessive water from near by rivers into a large water reservoir.
The windmills in Kinderdijk-Elshout were built between the years 1738 to 1740. This place is a must see for photographers as well as tourists!
